Cajun Potato Recipe

Cajun Potato Recipe Information:

It was my birthday when we first visited the Barbeque Nation restaurant. I loved the place, especially their way of serving the starters.

Right after I finished my welcome drink, they brought me some corn and a tasty dish called Cajun potatoes.

Just like love at first sight, for me it was love at first bite. 🙂

The potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, full of delicious spices.

I liked them so much that I wanted to make them at home. But then I discovered that the spicy sauce used in the original recipe was mayonnaise-based. So I decided to recreate the recipe with a healthier twist by replacing the mayonnaise with hung curd.

Hanging curd is a thick yogurt.

Then, I mixed in some spices to give it the right flavor.

And guess what?

After some testing, I whipped up the perfect batch of Cajun potatoes.

They were as delicious as the ones you find at a restaurant!

This recipe is really easy and fun to make. It’s the perfect dish when you want something delicious and quick to eat.

So, without waiting, let’s get started and experience the flavors of Barbeque Nation at home with this Barbeque Nation style recipe with cajun potatoes: a tasty and creamy appetizer with just the right amount of spices, ideal for any gathering.

Cajun potatoes

Serving Tip:

Serve these Cajun potatoes hot, garnished with some chopped onions and fresh cilantro leaves. For a complete meal you can serve them with a light salad, grilled paneer or vegetables of your choice.

Storage Tip:

These mayo-free Cajun potatoes are best enjoyed fresh. However, if you need to preserve them, keep the potatoes in the refrigerator without adding the sauce. Just before serving, heat them in a pan to crisp them up, then add the hung curd sauce.

This way you can maintain the crunchiness and freshness of the dish. Also, since the sauce is made with hung curds, be sure to store it in the refrigerator; otherwise it could become too acidic. Just before serving, add some chopped onion and cilantro to give it a fresh look and flavor.

Pro Tips for this Cajun Spiced Potato Recipe:

  1. Make sure the potatoes are only parboiled and not too soft, as they need to hold their shape when fried.
  2. For a healthier version, you can fry the breaded potatoes instead of deep-frying them.
  3. Adjust the spices in the Cajun sauce to your preference. If you like it spicier, add more red pepper flakes.

Why you should make this recipe:

Quick preparation: Ideal for busy days.

Crowd-pleaser: Loved by both adults and children.

Restaurant quality: Creamy and spicy taste that reproduces dinner away from home with minimal effort.

Cajun potatoes are a fantastic appetizer that has gained popularity in many Indian restaurants, especially places like Barbeque Nation. This version is tailor-made for those who prefer not to use mayonnaise but still want that creamy texture and tangy kick.

Basic ingredients used to make this Cajun Potato Barbecue Nation Style recipe:

New potatoes: New potatoes are the protagonists of this dish. Their small size makes them ideal for a snack or aperitif. If new potatoes are not available, you can use regular potatoes, although the taste may differ slightly.

Simply cut the potatoes into small pieces and adjust the cooking times accordingly.

Hanging Curd: The hung curd provides a creamy texture to the sauce, making it a healthier option. It also helps bind the spices well.

You can check the hanging curd recipe here. If hung curd is not available, you can use Greek yogurt which is very similar to hung curd.

Spices: I have used spices like Peri-peri seasoning, pepper powder, garlic powder, black salt, oregano, red chilli flakes and Kashmiri red chilli powder.

These spices are a must for this recipe and give the potatoes just the right flavor, with a mix of spicy, spicy and herbaceous flavors that are very important for this recipe. If peri peri seasoning is not available, you can substitute extra red chilli flakes.

Maida (00 flour) and corn flour: These two ingredients are used to prepare a dough, which is important for the crispy outer coating of the potatoes.

Others: Milk to adjust the consistency of the sauce and water to obtain a liquid dough.
