Privacy Policy for Status Downloader Mobile App

1. Introduction

At Status Downloader, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our mobile application (“Status Downloader”, Package: app.statusdownloader) and associated services. Our core philosophy is built on anonymity, transparency, and data minimization.

2. What We Collect and Why

No personal accounts or registration. You do not need to create an account, provide an email address, or share any personal identity details to use Status Downloader. We do not collect names, phone numbers, contacts, or passwords.

URLs you submit. When you paste a link into the tool, that URL is sent to our lookup service so we can resolve the direct media link. We do not store these URLs in a database or tie them to your identity. When the download succeeds, the URL is discarded as soon as the response is delivered to your device.

Failed downloads. When a download fails, we record a diagnostic report so we can find and fix the technical cause. That report contains the link you submitted, the error message shown to you, the date and time, your IP address, an approximate location derived from that IP (city and region — never a precise position), and technical details of your device: operating system, device type, screen size, connection type, and language. The report is written to our server log and emailed to our maintainers. It is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used to build a profile of you. Credentials are stripped before the report is written: anything resembling a session token, cookie, password, or API key is replaced with a placeholder.

Standard server logs. Like almost every server on the internet, ours automatically records basic access data: the IP address of the request, the client's user-agent string, the request path, and the timestamp. We keep these logs for a limited period strictly for security monitoring, abuse prevention, and diagnosing technical errors. We do not sell or share log data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Voluntary contact. If you reach out to us directly (for example, using our in-app Contact Support screen or by email), we will only use the name, email address, and message you provide to respond to your inquiry.

3. Mobile Device Permissions & Data Handling

To provide its core functionality, the App requests only the minimum necessary device permissions:

• Photos & Media Library (Write-Only Access): Used strictly to save downloaded videos, audio files, and photos directly into your device's photo gallery or media album when requested. The App does not read, scan, or access your existing personal photo library.
• Storage Access Framework (SAF) — WhatsApp Status Saver: On Android devices, viewing and saving cached WhatsApp statuses requires user authorization through Android's system folder picker (Storage Access Framework). The App only reads media files within the user-authorized folder on the device; no files, chats, or personal information are uploaded or shared.
• Clipboard Access: When you tap the “Paste” button, the App reads the URL copied to your clipboard solely to process the requested media link. Clipboard content is processed locally and discarded immediately.
• Internet Access: Used to communicate with our lookup service to resolve public media URLs and fetch public media streams directly to your phone.

4. User Control & Data Deletion

The App gives you complete control over your data stored locally on your device:

• Delete Single Media: You can delete any downloaded video, photo, or audio file at any time directly from the built-in media viewer.
• Clear Entire Library: You can delete all files saved inside the App at any time via Settings → Clear library.
• Revoke Folder Access: You can reset and revoke WhatsApp folder access at any time via Settings → Reset WhatsApp folder access.

5. Supported Platforms & Scope

The Status Downloader Mobile App operates exclusively on publicly shared links from supported social platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X/Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, and WhatsApp Status). The App also supports extracting MP3 audio soundtracks from supported videos. The App does not require, access, or store user login credentials, and only processes publicly accessible media.

In accordance with Google Play Developer Program Policies, third-party video platforms not listed above, including YouTube, are strictly not supported. Content from private profiles requiring user authentication or password credentials cannot be accessed or downloaded.

6. Third-Party Services

Our tools interact with external platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X (Twitter), Pinterest, and Snapchat. When you submit a link from one of these platforms, a request is made to that platform's servers. Those platforms have their own privacy policies that govern how they handle requests; we encourage you to review them. We are not responsible for their data practices.

We also rely on cloud infrastructure providers to host our service. These providers may process request data in transit as a normal part of delivering the service, under their own data processing agreements.

7. Data Retention

We do not maintain user profiles, download histories, or databases of submitted URLs. Server logs that are automatically generated are rotated and deleted on a rolling basis. We do not retain any data longer than necessary for the security and operational purposes described above.

8. Children's Privacy

Status Downloader is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, please contact us so we can remove it promptly.

9. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete information we hold about you. Because we collect so little data and do not maintain user accounts, there is typically nothing to access or delete. If you have a specific concern, reach out and we will assist you to the best of our ability.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of the page. Continued use of the service after a change is posted means you accept the updated policy. We recommend checking this page periodically if you use the service regularly.
