You need 2 things first

  1. Log in to instagram.com in your browser, like Chrome or Safari. Use this same browser for every step. Being logged in to the Instagram app is not enough.
  2. Follow the person whose story you want. Their profile must show Following. If it shows Follow or Requested, this will not work.

Why a Private Instagram Downloader Works Differently

Instagram's regular sharing rules only apply to public accounts. If someone's profile is private, their Stories, posts, Highlights and videos are only visible to people they've approved as followers. If someone posts something worth keeping and you don't save it in time, it's gone, and screenshotting is really the only workaround Instagram leaves you with, one that falls apart fast once video and sound are involved.
